Top-10 best second base players: Édouard Julien makes his debut

After listing the ten best starting pitchers, catchers, shortstops and right fielders, it was the turn of the second basemen to see their top 10 revealed by MLB Network, as part of its tradition annual.

And with the transition of Mookie Betts from the Los Angeles Dodgers to a new position, that of second base, no one else could take the pole of this list.

The finalist for National League MVP replaces Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros at No. 1 on the list, while the latter has fallen to second.

Former Toronto Blue Jays Marcus Semien moved up one spot to complete the top-3. Moreover, the Blue Jays have no representative in position number four, which is not a surprise.

Five new players entered the top-10 this year, including Quebecer Édouard Julien, who entered eighth place. This is a great accomplishment for the recruit from the Quebec region.

This is not surprising, however, since the Minnesota Twins second baseman was able to draw 60 walks during the 2023 campaign in addition to maintaining an OPS+ of 130. He thus became the first rookie second baseman to putting these numbers on the board since Joe Morgan in 1965.

Experts draw on past player performance, a number of offensive and defensive metrics, advanced statistics and traditional data, as well as analysis from the network's research team.

MLB Network will continue its roundup today (Thursday), as the first basemen will be analyzed.

We will then have to wait until next week, January 24, to see what happens next with the last three positions.
