Even though he is 40 years old, Joey Votto continues to attract interest from major baseball teams.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY, the veteran would interest at least three teams for next season. Nightengale wouldn't comment on which teams might be in the running for Votto's services.
Logically, the Toronto Blue Jays could certainly be in the mix. He could help the Jays in terms of leadership on the bench (and in the locker room), but also, offer good presences in the batter's box as a designated hitter. His last full season dates back to 2021, but he could continue to draw walks with his patience.
The Canadian also played 47 times at first base in 2023. He could therefore help out to give Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a day off or for any other valid reason.
One thing is certain, it would end his career well to play in front of his family. He just has to find a way to get along with the Blue Jays.
Chicago Cubs and others
The Chicago Cubs could be tempted to add him to their lineup. Even though they only made one acquisition (Shōta Imanaga), the Illinois team could offer an interesting role for the 40-year-old athlete.
The Cubs also need help all over the place, so if his role is clear, Votto might be interested in joining the Cubs. However, you will have to be convincing.
With Votto free for the first time in his long career, he might be tempted to align with a team that has a real chance of making the World Series. I'm not saying that the Jays don't have chances, but if a team that is in the race, already today, for the World Series, it might listen.
He could also retire…even if teams are interested in him.
The only certainty is that he will not wear the Reds uniform in 2024…
Let's mention that the main interested party saw Nightengale's tweet and said that four teams were after him since the Care Bears are also interested.
