The Yankees will finish with a winning record for a 31st consecutive season

There is no doubt, the New York Yankees’ season was more than disappointing, to be polite.

However, despite all the injuries, the work of manager Aaron Boone, the anemic offense from start to finish, the constant sleep of general manager Brian Cashman, the Bombardiers will finish this campaign with a winning record for a 31e consecutive times, having played for more than .500 every year since their record of 76 wins against 86 losses in 1992.

This was confirmed by their 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals last night (Saturday), a win which also marked Gunner Frankie Montas’ first outing in 2023. When I told you about Cashman’s sleep…

These 31 consecutive seasons with a positive record constitute the second longest such streak in baseball history and the third longest of the four major sports.

Only the Yankees from 1926 to 1964 and the Montreal Canadiens from 1952 to 1983 are ahead of them in this regard. This is therefore a very impressive feat, even if we are far from the expectations of last spring in the Bronx.

And manager Aaron Boone is making things right.

I agree the streak is impressive, especially when you tout it as the second longest in baseball history and all that. It’s remarkable, but we certainly approach every season since I’ve been here with loftier goals than that.

The Yankees will end their winning but frustrating campaign this afternoon in the final game of a three-game series against the Royals. For the occasion, Michael King will be on duty for the New Yorkers, while Zack Greinke and his record of only one victory against fifteen defeats will be on the mound for Kansas City.

When we compare ourselves, we console ourselves.

  • The Padres’ season has been fascinating.
