The Yankees stubbornly launch Luis Severino and pay the price

No later than July 7, I told you that Luis Severino needed a stay in the minors.

But true to their habits, the New York Yankees persist and sign keeping the Dominican pitcher on the mound all this time.

Just last night (Wednesday), Severino was rampant on the mound. This time, manager Aaron Boone had placed him behind an opener, reliever Ian Hamilton in this case.

It’s like hiding the dishes in the oven so you don’t have to wash them. It just postpones the inevitable.

After a scoreless first inning of ten pitches for Hamilton, Boone called on Severino.

Can someone explain to me where the urgency was to get his reliever out? Nobody, you’re right.

Result? The same as all right-handed exits. A DISASTER!

Severino allowed four earned runs on five hits in just two innings of work and the Bombardiers ultimately lost 9-2.

In the race for the playoffs, it is completely unacceptable to see him come back again and again on the mound.

The latter currently has a high earned run average of 8.06 and a WHIP of 1.88. With those stats, he wouldn’t even be in the Oakland A’s rotation.

Not only does Severino not have to touch the sand on the mound for the rest of this campaign, someone has to pay. And that someone is Boone, he who manages as if it were April.

It’s true, Carlos Rodon is on the injured list. But Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez can more than do the job.

It’s never too late to do well and the Yankees will have to make the right decision this week because time is running out.
