The United States starts the World Baseball Classic on the right foot

If the Dominican Republic stumbled in the Group D curtain raiser, it was quite a different story for the United States in Pool C at the World Baseball Classic.

Indeed, after seeing Colombia take the measure of Mexico in an excellent baseball match, the Americans did not skimp on means to beat Great Britain by the score of 6-2, even if the British had took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, courtesy of a homer by Trayce Thompson of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

We could have expected these kinds of results, but that’s how the United States reassured everyone.

The first eight batters on the lineup have all hit the trails at least once, and 14 of his at-bats have come with at least one runner in scoring position. Moreover, there was no 1-2-3 game defensively for the British.

Kyle Schwarber lifted the roof off Chase Field in Arizona when he catapulted a hanging shifter to the moon in round four. That was the end of those who probably have the ugliest uniform in the tournament.

As my colleague Charles-Alexis so aptly puts it, the designer of the English shirt took one of the most common fonts on the word processing software Word and sent it directly to print. My three year old daughter would have done better.

Getting back to baseball, Great Britain take on Canada at 3 p.m. today, while the United States take on Mexico late tonight.
