The best performance of his young career in last Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays was not enough for Édouard Julien to stay in major league baseball. Not at the moment, at least.
Indeed, in order to make room in the lineup for the return to play of Jorge Polanco, the Minnesota Twins had to return the Quebecer to the AAA level, according to manager Rocco Baldelli.
Julien has been showing encouraging signs for the past few days, with the exception of last night’s game (Wednesday), when he was struck out three times as leadoff batter against the Houston Astros.
It’s only a matter of time before the second baseman returns to MLB. First because he can clearly do well in this league and second because Polanco spends more time on the sidelines than on the sand in the infield.
The Quebecer has a batting average of .210 in his first 72 appearances at bat in the Majors, in addition to hitting four long balls. During his next stay in the minors, Julien will surely work to reduce his number of strikeouts, he who made his reputation by his percentage of presences on the trails.
Meanwhile, the Twins will face the Cleveland Guardians tonight to kick off a four-game series.
