Four years ago, the Boston Red Sox named Dave Bush as their pitching coach. The former major league baseball pitcher already worked in the organization.
And now he lost his job today. The Red Sox have made the decision, according to Alex Speier, to relieve him of his duties immediately.
Let’s just say he didn’t arrive as pitching coach during the most successful period in the history of the Boston Red Sox. Under Chaim Bloom, the club struggled to find success.
And obviously, we judge that the pitching coach is part of the problem that has prevented the club from making the playoffs for two years.
Not having Chris Sale for much of the four seasons of his reign didn’t help Bush’s cause, we agree, but there’s more to it than that.
The club is having difficulty developing pitchers and it shows. This season, the Red Sox notably finished in the bottom third of the MLB in terms of earned run average (4.52) for pitchers.
We need to do better in Boston.
Remember that Chaim Bloom has still not been replaced by the Red Sox, but that Alex Cora knows that he will be back in 2024 as manager.
He also said that his coaching staff needed to be better after a second difficult season in a row in Boston.
And obviously, part of the problem has been identified.
