The Tampa Bay Rays improved on their pristine record yesterday afternoon (Saturday), beating the Oakland A’s 11-0.
The eight wins against no losses is the best start among MLB teams in the past 20 seasons. The Kansas City Royals had then won their first nine meetings during the 2003 campaign.
During this idyllic start, the Rays scored more runs than all major league teams, 68, in addition to giving up the fewest in the entire American League, only 14.
All of Tampa’s wins have come by a four-plus point margin. You have to go back to the 1939 New York Yankees to see a similar performance, with the latter doing so over a ten-game streak.
It will now be necessary to see if the Rays can maintain the rhythm for a long time, since they have not yet faced a respectable formation, measuring themselves against the Detroit Tigers, the Washington Nationals then the Athletics until now. This will still not be the case in their next series against the Boston Red Sox.
Perhaps we’ll get a better idea of this team’s true value starting April 14, when they visit the Blue Jays in Toronto.
