Last night, the Philadelphia Phillies were in San Diego to face the Padres in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series between the two teams.
For the occasion, the locals sent Yu Darvish to the mound. The pitcher, who is having a great season, pitched seven innings (while bleeding from the knee) for his team.
And he only made two mistakes.
The first was letting Bryce Harper hit his fourth long pitch of the playoffs and his third in three games. The DH of the Phillies had finished the season badly, but in the playoffs, he is on fire.
And the second was Kyle Schwarber’s huge home run, a guy who’s been getting more and more on base for three games.
His 488-foot long ball has historically hit far while only Willson Contreras has ever done better in the playoffs.
And with Zack Wheeler giving up just one hit in seven innings of work, the Phillies were able to secure a 2-0 victory.
They took a 1-0 series lead so they stole home-court advantage.
This afternoon, at 4:35 p.m., Aaron Nola and Blake Snell will be on the mound to play game #2 of the series, still in California.
And at 7:37 p.m. tonight, the Yankees (who just eliminated the Guardians) will send Jameson Taillon for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, which takes place in Houston. The Astros will send Justin Verlander, them.
- Two RBIs for Charles Leblanc in the Dominican Republic.
- Let’s hope he’s back in full force.
- Gary Sanchez on his departure?
