Phillies vs. Braves. We agree that we are talking here about a high quality duel between two teams who faced each other last year.
Let’s say that even though Spencer Strider was in good shape, the Braves hitters gave the pitcher no support. And all the while, the Phillies took advantage.
It started with Bryson Stott (him again) who produced the first point of the game.
Then, Bryce Harper (who else) hit an important home run to make it 2-0. He is important in big moments.
If Ranger Suarez didn’t pitch long (3.2 innings), Spencer Strider was better. In seven innings, he only gave up one earned run, which is very good.
But the Phillies’ next generation held on and the club blanked the Braves in Atlanta, which is no small feat, let’s face it.
The Phillies relievers, however, had a little help on two occasions.
First, JT Realmuto hit the opposing catcher’s glove (although it’s not clear) and that produced a run because the bases were loaded.
Despite a replay, the decision stood and fans threw trash onto the field.
Then, Trea Turner made a huge defensive play late in the game to prevent the Braves from scoring. And he was happy.
Result? The Phillies are well and truly in the lead of the Braves right now and they are two wins away from the championship series. They also cut away home advantage.
Monday, at 6 p.m., Blake Wheeler and Max Fried will cross swords.
