The Mets considered building a retractable roof for their stadium

As we all know, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen isn’t afraid to put his hand deep in his pocket to attract star players to his roster.

But it seems that this is also the case for the infrastructure of Citi Field. Indeed, Cohen reportedly once considered building a retractable roof in an effort to improve the New York fan experience.

The wealthy owner was told it would cost $800 million to add a retractable roof, which seems to have dampened his ambitions for greatness. The figure put forward could even be undervalued given the current inflation.

The last rainy weekend in Queens, however, could make the owner.

No other baseball owner could even dream of adding 33% to the total cost of their franchise. But Cohen does what he wants with his fortune and it might not be a bad investment in the long run since the value of the franchise would certainly go up, a franchise that was paid $2.4 billion and is already worth it. more.

It could also increase revenue, as duplicate programs would be eliminated. Also, the comfort in the stadium on hotter or colder days would surely bring more fans inside it.

Rest assured, if the numbers support building a roof, Cohen will go ahead. And that won’t stop him from chasing Shohei Ohtani next offseason.
