A few days ago, we wrote that the radio silence in the Carlos Correa file was not a bad thing for the Mets. Why?
Because that means that the case is evolving in the shadows.
Due to the principal’s medical report which scares the Mets (as it did for the Giants) due to the long contract, the agreement between the Mets and the client of Scott Boras is still not official at the time of write these lines.
This means that the Mets do not have the exclusivity of his negotiation window and that the other teams can still talk to him. And recently, we learned that three teams had done it.
We did not yet know the identity of the teams, but we could believe that the Minnesota Twins, his team of 2022, were going to be in the lot.
Maybe Minnesota wanted to talk about a contract shorter than the 10-year, $285 million offered a few weeks ago?
But otherwise, the Giants also recalled.
Farhan Zaidi, in charge of baseball operations for the San Francisco club, confirmed that his club had recently been put in contact with Correa.
However, don’t hold your breath: Correa won’t sign in San Francisco. Zaidi said he feels at this point that Correa wants to play somewhere else after what happened.
In the end, this will ensure that the club will not try to return to the file.
I really feel that the Mets and the Correa clan are doing everything they can to get along. After all, Steve Cohen said he needed Correa and the player doesn’t want to, once again, have to sign another contract elsewhere.
It seems to be easier for everyone… despite the risk.
