The Domingo German adventure has gone on long enough

Domingo German is not a good pitcher. He never was and never will be.

Admittedly, he had known some good streaks during his career, but his eternal lack of consistency means that he cannot enter the category of good pitchers. Even less of the excellent ones.

And that’s when he doesn’t get suspended for domestic violence or illegal substance use.

To add a layer of it, the game last night (Thursday) was no exception.

German gave up not four runs, or six, or eight, but ten, eight of which he earned in the New York Yankees’ loss to the Seattle Mariners. All this in just three and a third innings. A masterpiece…

The right-hander has therefore given no less than 17 points, including 15 earned, in his last two starts.

The Bronx Bombers therefore find themselves with a big problem at the number five starting position. German has already had far too many chances and Clarke Schmidt is incapable of fulfilling this responsibility.

So why not give young Johny Brito a chance on a regular basis instead of shuffling him between the minors and MLB? Either way, they’ll only need four starters in the playoffs.

If Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza and Oswaldo Cabrera have had a lot of playing time since the end of the last campaign, Brito also deserves his place until proven otherwise.

If the latter cannot keep up the pace, the transaction market will always be open to fill this gap.

The German adventure has gone on long enough. It will be up to general manager Brian Cashman to put on his pants.
