the ball sold for $70,000

In Game 6 between the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros during the 2021 World Series, Jorge Soler hit a home run that marked the imagination for the distance he traveled. The Braves won the championship that night.

As SCP Auctions reported on Sunday afternoon, this long bale was sold at auction for no less than US$70,000.

If you don’t remember the sequence, here it is. Top of the third inning, 0-0. The 29-year-old designated hitter comes to the plate, swings, makes the contact and sends the ball 446 feet further. He gives a three-point lead to his team in Houston.

And it’s not the first time that something completely crazy has happened in connection with this ball. Last November, on game night, she was kicked so far that she ran out of Minute Maid Park.

Manuel Ramos, a fan who lived in an apartment complex across from where Jorge Soler hit his home run, saw the ball go through the stadium structure, past the railroad that separated his street from the stadium to stop on the lawn.

Among the passers-by, no one seemed to notice that they were in the presence of a World Series collector’s item. Manuel and his friends therefore rushed to the spot – and managed to recover the ball, which they later brought back to their apartment party.

The irony in all this? As most observers have noted, Manuel Ramos is an Astros fan. SCP Auctions did not say if he still had it at the time of the sale, but if so, the $70,000 should serve as a balm to the heart.
