Have you checked out the Angels Twitter account recently?
There are several people there who are honored by the club. Mike Trout, for example, is one. His nomination for the Roberto Clemente Trophy was highlighted.
There are also beautiful games of the matches, happy birthday wishes and thanks for those who showed up at the Fiesta Angels.
Even Miguel Cabrera was honored.
But do you know what’s impossible to find on the Los Angeles Angels Twitter account recently? A tribute to Shohei Ohtani.
Yesterday, the Angels announced that the club would not see the Japanese on the field again this year. We also learned that the pitcher was going to have elbow surgery soon.
The simple fact that the club did nothing to mark the end of the season for the one who will win the MVP is something.
But as you know, there is a bigger implication with the end of his contract. That makes it, in my eyes, even worse.
Please note: I’m not saying Ohtani won’t sign with Anaheim this winter because the club didn’t release a video yesterday or today.
But what I’m saying is that it’s a lack of respect. Right now, the club is acting as if nothing happened and it’s being noticed in the MLB.
The club even if he says that he loves Ohtanibut you still have to show him. No?
After all, not only is Ohtani an extraordinary player, but he clearly cares about the club. He needs to get his money back: he deserves it.
After the terrible season the Angels had (releasing players weeks after trying to win was horrible), it seems to me they owe the star some respect. No?
It would be the least we could do.
But at the same time, it shouldn’t be surprising to see the Angels doing things the wrong way. I don’t know what I expected…
Remember that rumors are already sending Ohtani elsewhere this winter.
- Another losing season for the Angels.
- A first grand slam for Juan Soto in the MLB? Really?
- Kim Ng back in Miami? His contract will expire shortly.
