Spencer Strider: a speed record for reaching 100 strikeouts

The Atlanta Braves have a great pitcher on hand in Spencer Strider. The Columbus native pitcher ended up making his place, during the season last year, in the rotation of his team.

And since then, he has been almost invincible.

If there’s anything he does, it’s pull guys out of takes. It’s one of the great strengths on the mound.

In less than 200 career innings (197.2), he already has 308 strikeouts. He could therefore, at this rate, aspire to have 300K in one season in the MLB.

He is, when you think about it, right now on the beat. In 11 outings this year, which is 1/3 of a season, he has 106 strikeouts in 63.2 innings – including nine yesterday against Philly.

He averages 15 guys out per nine innings, which is a high this year.

He started yesterday night at 97K and quickly was able to get three to become the first pitcher this year to get the mark.

He did it in 61 innings. Since the mound is 60-foot-6, no one has gone better than 61 innings to reach 100 strikeouts.

Of course, it’s excellent. There have been many quality pitchers who have never achieved such a feat in their career.

Nolan Ryan, for example, is behind Strider in this very specific category.

On this subject, Max Scherzer has already said something in the past that it is important to bring back into the discussion in order to properly compare the eras.

In his eyes, what was happening back then and what is happening now is different because back in the day guys were embarrassed to get pulled out on takes.

Today, this is no longer the case. Not for the majority, at least.

But never mind, we can compare today’s stats with those of today. And at that level, Strider has more Ks than the others launching in 2023.
