Shohei Ohtani vs. Mike Trout: Rob Manfred couldn’t ask for anything better

Message to Major League Baseball owners: Those who want to sign Shohei Ohtani will pretty much have to write him a blank check.

Marcus Stroman talks about a billion dollars.

We knew that Shohei Ohtani wanted to win more than anything. We knew that representing his country was special for him. We knew he was good. But what happened last night in the conquest of Japan at the World Baseball Classic? Nothing equals that.

To see Ohtani running between the taste and the enclosure of his family for hours, it was already surreal.

Question of closing a tournament that was exciting as possible, we were treated to the ultimate scenario: Mike Trout against Shohei Ohtani. Round nine. One point difference. Two withdrawals.

Réjean Tremblay would have written such a screenplay that no one would have believed him.

To see Ohtani succeed in depriving Mike Trout of a title (again, an Angels teammate prevents him from winning something) by retiring him on three strikes will remain a strong image of history.

All eyes in baseball were on the stars of the Angels.

I don’t know about you, but yesterday’s game I spent calculating. I wanted to know if the impossible was going to be possible. If Ohtani was going to be able to warm up between two appearances at bat.

And if so, was Trout going to bat?

The Classic managed to make the seat I sat in last night overwhelmingly pretty useless. For what?

Because from my seat, I only used the end of it.

For March baseball, that’s pretty unique. It is a success since, in the tournament, the best were the best.

And at the top of the list is Ohtani. His batting numbers are straight out of another planet, but so is his performance on the mound. He didn’t earn the title of tournament MVP by chance or charity.

And when you combine them together, it’s… Shohei Ohtani.

The Ohtani character is unheard of in modern baseball. And the good news is that we only have one more year to see him lose in Anaheim before he breaks the bank to join a good team.

  • A beautiful moment for Ohtani, whose club was undefeated during the tournament.
  • 1-0 Ohtani, Trout said. Both want to play the Classic again in three years.
  • A final farewell to dialless baseball?
  • There were 2,000 members of the media last night.
