The baseball world is impatiently awaiting a top-tier signing, like that of Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell or Cody Bellinger.
In the meantime, however, this does not prevent other free agents from signing a new pact with an MLB team.
Indeed, the last in line, Sean Manaea, has agreed on the terms of a two-year contract worth $28 million with the New York Mets, according to Jon Heyman of New YorkPost.
The agreement also includes an exit option after the 2024 campaign.
The addition of the 31-year-old fills a glaring need in the Queens Reps' starting rotation, a rotation that consisted of Kodai Senga, Luis Severino, Jose Quintana and Adrian Houser before his arrival.
Manaea is coming off an up-and-down 2023 season with the San Francisco Giants, having maintained a 4.44 earned run average in 37 games, including 27 in relief and 10 as a starter.
However, in his final four starts of the campaign, the Gunner posted a 2.25 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to a .222 batting average.
At the end of the season, Manaea opted out of the second and final year of his contract with the Giants. He was then expected to earn $12.5 million in 2024.
In addition to the Giants, the left-hander also played with the Oakland A's and the San Diego Padres during his eight-season career in major league baseball. During this period, Manaea maintained a 4.10 ERA with 925 strikeouts in 1,002 2/3 innings of work.
