Sandy Alcantara won the Cy Young last year…and let’s say it wasn’t exactly by chance. Clearly, he deserved his title because he was truly the best in all of MLB.
Yesterday, he just picked up exactly where he left off. How? By throwing a full game without giving any points, a good old shutout.
After having launched six last year, here it is at one this season. This is no longer commonplace, which makes the exploit quite interesting.
He gave the Twins just three hits and only needed 100 shots to get the job done, showing he was in his element.
The Marlins won 1-0. Clearly, Alcantara didn’t have a lot of rope, but he really didn’t give his opponents anything.
Because it was a match without great offensive potential, it was played quickly. In fact, the match lasted 1h 57, which is a record this season. Around 8:45 p.m., the game was over. It’s crazy!
After a first game this season (against the Mets) where he threw 96 shots without finishing the sixth inning on the sidelines of the opening day, here he is back at the top.
Didn’t take long, huh? It’s no wonder coming from what is probably the best pitcher in MLB right now.
- Manny Machado was ejected from yesterday’s game.
- Fernando Tatis Jr. has started his fitness.
