Last night (Tuesday), the Oakland A’s were in the game in the seventh inning for the rare time this season. With a drop of only one point and an 8-7 mark, all hopes were allowed.
In the end, it was only a flash in the pan, since Ryan Mountcastle decided otherwise. Indeed, the first baseman catapulted Dany Jiménez’s offering to the other side of the fence, producing four runs because the bases were all occupied.
The Baltimore Orioles then won the duel against the Athletics by a score of 12-8.
But what I didn’t tell you was that Mountcastle had already driven in five points in the game before his grand slam, which took his tally to RBI nine in the meeting.
The 26-year-old tied the Maryland franchise record for most RBIs in a game, set by Jim Gentile in 1961 and tied by Eddie Murray in 1985.
He also became the first MLB player to achieve the feat since Adam Duvall in 2020.
Mountcastle finished his night on the job with three hits, including two long runs (he had hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning). Let’s bet he will still be in the lineup tonight (Wednesday) against his same A’s.
- He doesn’t have an easy challenge.
