Rumor: Andrew McCutchen at Rangers

My colleague Alexandra Greaves told you about it over the weekend, but nothing is going right with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The club are really low in the standings after a fantastic month of April.

The natural returns at a gallop, therefore.

The way things are progressing, it’s fully to be expected that the Pirates will sell at the next trade deadline.

After all, the club is not where it wants to be. Maybe next year?

All that to say that one player to watch is Andrew McCutchen. He is really having a very good season and the chances that he will interest another team are great.

That said, you know how important it is to the people of Pittsburgh. If he doesn’t want to quit, he won’t quit. And right now, I don’t expect him to leave.

That said, there is a scenario that could be believable.

Jon Morosi earlier today raised the possibility of the Texas Rangers picking up whoever plays like he’s on again in 2015.

I don’t know if McCutchen could play like that elsewhere, but in Arlington he could reunite with Bruce Bochy, who he got to know in San Francisco in 2018.

Also, the Rangers have a big offense, but they need help at the prime hitter position. Cutch could be the ideal candidate for several reasons.

Of course, we know he doesn’t want to leave Pittsburgh. That said, being able to try to play in the heart of a World Series could convince him to accept a trade.

Because no, the Pirates are not going to trade him against his will.

And if so, the Pirates could get their hands on him this offseason. Normally, this plan never works, but with him…

If the Rangers could also get their hands on a pitcher, that might make sense for Arlington’s roster, which is really good in 2023. Keep it up, then.
