Yes, we all really like Shohei Ohtani very much. One of the reasons we like it so much is because it’s one of a kind.
However, is it soon the day we will see the next Shohei Ohtani in action? The question arises, because we had to wait a long time to see the next Babe Ruth in action with Ohtani, precisely!
There may be an answer within the San Francisco Giants organization. Indeed, the Dominican Ronald Guzman could be the next elected.
First baseman and pitcher
Guzman only played three games in MLB last season, with the New York Yankees. Prior to his 2022 season with the Yankees, he spent the first four years of his career as a member of the Texas Rangers organization, a journey during which he played 243 games in the show. The name may be familiar to you for these reasons.
No one really knew Guzman was a potential pitcher until the Giants tagged him as a gunner during the camp invite. The latter granted him a minor league agreement during the off-season. He has always been recognized as an infielder, more specifically as a first baseman.
Videos of him throwing the ball were posted on the social network Instagram and, frankly, he seems to be doing well. It is said to have hit 96 mph with its rapid, 82 with its drop and finally, 84 with its shifter.
His age comes into play
There is a determining factor in relation to who throws with the left hand. He is 28 years old. Compared to me, he’s young, but for a baseball player and an athlete in general, he’s pretty old enough to start in a new position, and or new sport.
There are two ways to look at it in my opinion. Either he is considered too old to succeed in the transition and bring together the winning conditions in order to achieve the objective. Either, the main interested party of this text perceives the thing as a spectacular way to relaunch his career, because, after all, he does not have a major league contract in 2023.
If he stands out overall in his game, he could be called upon to play with the Giants in the infield. Recall that Brandon Belt is now a member of the Blue Jays and that the depth at this position is rather weak on the San Francisco side. Once at the topmaybe the Giants will be inclined to give him a few innings of work here and there, but that remains in the realm of hypothetical, of course.
It would be interesting to have two hybrid players in MLB in the years to come. Imagine if Ohtani and Guzman had to face each other in the same match, the buzz that it would create in the baseball planet.
