Last year, in the regular season, Robbie Ray was unable to pitch in Toronto (where he won the Cy Young in 2021) due to his vaccination situation. Will he be able to recover this year?
The answer is no since he is going to have tendon surgery. His 2023 season is over.
This season, the pitcher made only one (bad) outing before getting injured. He will not have the chance to recover before 2024.
What’s unfortunate for Seattle is that the club not only lost a gunner, but the leaders don’t really have time to turn on a dimeas the saying goes.
If it had happened during the off-season, that would be a different story.
Fortunately, the Mariners have a good rotation (Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Marco Gonzalez and Chris Flexen are a good group), but it hurts.
I know the Blue Jays tried to sign him and Kevin Gausman was brought in because Ray chose to leave, but clearly the Queen City club isn’t losing out.
I am convinced that at this time, the Jays do not regret their investment. After two seasons, things are turning to their advantage – unless he collapses by then.
- The White Sox lost due to Blue Jays foul balls? Hmm…
