Rob Thomson gets two-year contract extension

For a while now, we’ve known that Rob Thomson would return to the helm of the Phillies in 2023. After all, the Canadian, who had the interim title, was doing a good job after replacing Joe Girardi during the season.

And now the Phillies have just formalized everything: Thomson has received a two-year contract which has the effect of dropping the title “interim” of his position.

He received this good news after eliminating the Cardinals in two games in Missouri. That must have helped a bit.

His 65-46 regular season record also likely helped.

The guys like him and it was well received in the locker room. It’s rare to see such news in the playoffs, but Thomson’s case is unique.

After all, he took a bad team and won them playoff games. It’s not nothing.

The Phillies, who will face the Braves in Atlanta starting tomorrow, will get a full-time manager for the first playoff game in Philadelphia since 2011. It will be a little later this week, actually.

Good news for the organization and for baseball in Canada, therefore.
