Since last Tuesday (February 1), there have been no union negotiations between bosses and players. Instead of trying to agree on the terms of a new collective agreement, the bosses offered mediation and the players, seeing a PR tactic, refused.
But in all of this, nothing has progressed. We learned yesterday (Wednesday) that Rob Manfred was going to speak to the media on Thursday (so somewhere today) and it is easy to believe that it is to postpone, officially, the training camps.
Rob Manfred will speak to the media tomorrow
We expect to see him announce the postponement of the start of training camps. After all, there are no scheduled sessions to negotiate with the players.
But the question to ask is when the two parties will talk to each other. After all, that’s how the coNFLict is going to be resolved, isn’t it?
The answer is that it will happen on Saturday the 12th. A meeting is scheduled and it will be the first since the beginning of the month.
Even better? MB will table an offer to the players, who recently claimed that the bosses never put offers on the table.
The big economic stakes should be covered in the offer, which will be built according to the meeting of the owners this week. It will probably be ridiculous in the eyes of the players, that said.
MLB is planning to make a new proposal following the owners meeting which ends tomorrow. It is expected to involve core economic issues, and hope remains that it could trigger something to get a deal done on time for the regular season to begin as scheduled, or close.

Note that this is only the fifth time that the MLB and the MLBPA will negotiate since the beginning of the coNFLict. Don’t ask yourself why it’s endless.
Even if the camp will not start on time, the hope of seeing the season start on time exists on the sidelines of a shortened camp. That’s why it really is one to midnight right now.
Will they get there? I’m not hoping to see regular season games at the end of March, no.
The same questions come up again. Will the season be pushed back? Shortened? Both? It’s hard to follow, let’s say.
