The Pittsburgh Pirates just got their hands on veteran Rich Hill. The left-handed starting pitcher accepted a one-year offer, which is fitting considering he’ll be 43 in the spring.
He will receive eight million dollars.
The Red Sox would have liked to bring major league baseball’s oldest player back into their fold, but it didn’t work out in the end.
The Pirates are not their first addition this winter. Vince Velasquez is also added to the club’s pitching staff. Ji-Man Choi and Carlos Santana are also two hitters who will play under the yellow colors of the Pirates in 2023.
The club is therefore not “aggressive” as such, but still: there is a bit more money invested than in the past. It’s a beginning.
Nathan Eovaldi, Johnny Cueto and Corey Kluber are the best starting pitchers that are still available as free agents right now.
