The San Francisco Giants are having trouble attracting free agents. This is not exactly a new realization.
But sometimes the club has to help itself a little.
According to Susan Sussler and Jon Heyman, the Giants tried to sign Rhys Hoskins, who ultimately went to Milwaukee.
That said, the Giants' offer did not match that of the Brewers.
Remember that the Brewers offered Hoskins $34 million over two years, or $17 million per season. He also has an exit option in one year and a mutual option year in 2026.
Was it money that didn't work? In terms of the exit option, important for Scott Boras (obviously his agent) to rebuild his value quickly?
These are good questions.
Note that the Giants would try to avoid, for the future, contracts with exit options quickly included in the agreement.
I have a feeling this is where the problem presented itself for Scott Boras, who is keen to provide exit options for his players.
Let us mention that the Giants will therefore have to find a solution to improve their team. I expect Matt Chapman to be a big option…if the right offer is on the table.
