A few years ago, Andrew Benintendi was a top prospect for the Boston Red Sox. He was an integral part of a young nucleus also made up of Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers, who were seen as the future of the club.
That said, like Betts and Bogaerts, Benintendi is no longer in Boston. The outfielder was traded to the Royals a few years ago before moving to the Yankees at the latest trade deadline. Then, he signed a pact with the White Sox to spend the next five years with Chicago.
So he finds the Sox, but he changed the color.
However, according to what reports Chris Cotillo, Benintendi could well have worn red stockings again, while the Red Sox have shown an interest in repatriating the outfielder to town this winter.
Basically, it did not lead to much: the Red Sox were not ready to meet the salary demands of Benintendi, who signed a pact of $ 75 million over five years.
Instead, we gave Masataka Yoshida a five-year contract for the tidy sum of $90 million (and a fee of just over $15 million for taking him out of Japan).
So we feel that the Red Sox had their noses in a lot of races in the range market, but for one reason or another, it didn’t work out. We also wanted to bring back Bogaerts and JD Martinez, but both are now in the West of the National.
Clearly, the old faces of the organization weren’t particularly interested in returning to town.
In short, it will be interesting to see what the Red Sox will look like next season, but clearly, the team is in all races and we seem to want to improve. It remains to be seen if this will materialize in success on the ground.
