Rays reach 20 wins

For the first time in 23 games this year, the Tampa Bay Rays haven’t hit a long ball. But never mind, against the Houston Astros, the Rays found a nice way to win a big game at home.

That puts the Rays at 20-3, which is obviously the best in the league. No one else has a record of at least 20 wins…and no one else is as fun to follow right now.

The Pirates have 16 wins… and that’s it.

It should also be mentioned that the Rays therefore started the season with a 14-0 record at old Trop, which is absolutely terrific for the 14 fans who deign to move to St. Pete.

Stuffing aside, the Rays have averaged 17,551 fans per game on average this season, for 25th in the league. It’s not huge for a team of this caliber, but good.

And since the A’s are listed at 11,025 (!), allow me to doubt the veracity of the Rays’ count.

With the Orioles and Blue Jays wins, it still puts Tampa Bay with an interesting and comfortable lead atop the division, but let’s just say no one can take a little break.

After all, even the worst team in the division plays for .500, which is notable at this point in the 2023 MLB season.

The Yankees and Red Sox both lost yesterday. The Yankees lacked offense and the Red Sox went through the full range of emotions during the first innings of the game.

It is just beginning.

round 10
  • The Blue Jays won, but Chris Bassitt’s condition is being monitored. The pitcher left the game of his people.
  • The Angels lost a crazy game against the A’s.
  • Spencer Strider was excellent again yesterday.
  • Clint Frazier is leaving the Rangers.
  • It’s sad what’s happening in Oakland.
