After taking the measure of their opponent in the first two games, the Texas Rangers saw the tide turn in their series and we feel that the Championship Series duel is slipping through their fingers, the Houston Astros clearly having the momentum currently.
It all started in game three, when Max Scherzer was unable to get the job done and put the series out of reach for the Astros, as has happened too many times in his career.
It was a second straight difficult postseason start for the veteran, who allowed five runs and five hits with one walk in four innings of work.
During the series Wild Card of the National League with the New York Mets last season, he allowed seven earned runs on seven hits, including four home runs, in 4 2/3 innings in a 7-1 loss to the San Diego Padres.
If the series between Texas and Houston were to go to the limit, it is Scherzer who would find himself on the mound. The pressure is therefore on the Rangers, who must finish the job in the next two meetings, otherwise the carrots could well be cooked.
This is because the main interested party displays the worst earned run average in the postseason of all MLB pitchers who have been officially for at least 25 innings since 2020 with a snoring 5.68. It’s ugly, very ugly.
With a shaky succession that we have seen again in the last two games, Texas needs good performances from its starters, even more so in a possible game number seven.
However, this is not quite what is on the horizon.
