As you've probably seen, the Boston Red Sox have made the decision to trade Chris Sale – and some cash – to the Atlanta Braves.
In return, Vaughn Grissom, the young infield prospect, is going to Boston.
The Red Sox are weakening on the mound, but at least they are able to solidify their infield a little for 2024.
With Triston Casas, Trevor Story and Rafael Devers already in place, Grissom will have the chance to compete for the second base job. And everything indicates that he will get the job, if he has a good camp.
Devers will inevitably be the cornerstone of the infield and the entire club. After all, without Sale, Devers now becomes the only player still in Boston who won in 2018.
You read correctly.
It’s still 2023 and it’s been just over five years since the club got its most recent ring. And already there is only one player left in town?
It's pretty crazy. And I don't mean that in a good way.
It will therefore be up to Devers to show others how it works in Boston. He has the big contract and the experience: it is more than ever his club.
This was already the case, but we understand each other.
Let us mention, however, that Alex Cora is still there. The one who was hired in 2018 was the manager when the club won.
But since he's not a player and has been fired (then rehired) in the meantime, we can't count him among the players, obviously.
- Vaughn Grissom thanks the Braves.
- Sweaters: the best sellers of 2023.
