We’re not going to hide it, the last week and a half has been tough for the Pirates. A series against the Rays, followed by a series against the Blue Jays and another against the Rockies, series that have not been easy.
It is sure that facing such talented teams is difficult. But, even more, if your attack fails to perform, you cannot win. Especially considering that the Pirates’ weakness is pitchers.
Before the start of the series against the Blue Jays, I noticed that the Pirates were stealing a lot of bases. But, as the Pirates struggled to hit hits, they attempted more steals, which resulted in more outs.
Still, the Pirates are first in the league with 48 stolen bases. Followed by the Oakland A’s, with 39, and the Orioles and Guardians, with 38 thefts. But, in 6 days, the Pirates have only stolen 4. In the same period, they have given 36 points to their opponents, and have only scored 9. This means that when the Pirates have difficulty hitting hits, they have a hard time stealing bases.
And, for the Pirates, it is essential that the offense dominates, since the pitchers are not necessarily the best in the league.
The Pirates are enjoying the day off after a fairly difficult period. In the last 10 games, they have a record of one win and nine losses, still finding themselves in first place in the Central Division of the National League. They are also still among the best teams in the National, ranked third after the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
