Perry Giannias brings the Expos back to life for a cause close to his heart

Perry Gee, for those close to him, wears his heart on his sleeve and has been associated with the history of the Montreal Expos for a very long time. Considered the greatest collector of objects related to the history of the franchise, the sympathetic Laval resident has remained in contact with several former players of the franchise.

Beyond his passion for baseball, he pursues the dream of young Catherine “Kat” Demes, who lost her battle with cancer a few years ago, by raising funds for the benefit of the foundation named after her. honor and to which Perry and his family are particularly attached. Young Catherine was Perry’s niece.

Through weekly activities, the well-known philanthropist raises funds through raffles that delight many nostalgic Expos. Autographed items (sticks, balls, caps, photos) are honored and the money collected goes directly to the foundation.

On April 22, in Laval, the president of the foundation will organize another Gala ExposFest which will once again bring together a line-up of sports personalities well known to Quebecers, including Vladimir Guerrero, André Dawson, Moises Alou, Ellis Valentine and Chris Chelios.

With the holding of this gala, the foundation will most likely surpass the mark of one million dollars raised to date. Had it not been for the pandemic, the magic number would have been reached long before, because COVID-19 deprived the organizers of two events, in 2020 and 2021.

In an interview with Mario Langlois, on the airwaves of 98.5, Perry Giannias mentioned having developed, over time, a relationship of friendship with Vladimir Guerrero father and son, especially the father he has known for a very long time. .

Vladimir Sr. doesn’t hesitate a minute when the time comes to lend a hand to his friend Perry. The Hall of Famer will be at his second consecutive gala next April.

Already, more than half of the tickets for the Gala have found takers, after only one day of availability.

Thanks to Perry Giannias, the Montreal Expos will always remain present in the imagination of Quebecers and his great generosity benefits the young people who receive care at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
