Padres owner dies

In recent days, when we talked about the San Diego Padres, it was to mention that the club did not yet have a manager or to talk about the Juan Soto rumors.

Or otherwise, it was to talk about the club’s money problems, which are of the order of $50 million.

But today, it is to announce very sad news that we must talk about the Padres. For what? Because the club announced the death of its owner, Peter Seidler.

He was 63 years old and the cause of his death has not been announced. Our thoughts are with his family.

Seidler was recognized as one of MLB’s good owners. He wasn’t afraid to put money on the table to improve his team.

Even Rob Manfred didn’t believe the Padres had the means to go as far as Seidler did…but the businessman did.

And even though it didn’t work out this year, he still had a goal of winning the World Series – and beating the cursed Dodgers.

Everyone knew that the pace at which he authorized spending was intense and today it is clearly questionable how sustainable the pace of yesteryear is.

Will this affect Juan Soto’s future in San Diego? I feel like with the big contracts that are already in place, the idea of giving him a big contract in a year – without Seidler – is far-fetched.

I imagine the file is now in the hands of his estate.

It shouldn’t be easy to manage since the grieving to do will be significant, but we are in the heart of the off season: we need to talk about all of this now.

I imagine GM AJ Preller knows his phone is going to ring for Juan Soto…

  • The teams will probably approve the A’s move to Las Vegas, but Nevada’s teachers don’t want to see public money go to a ballpark.
  • Former Blue Jays prospects added to Cardinals 40-man roster.
  • What will the Giants do if Shohei Ohtani says no?
  • Carlos Mendoza likes his new challenge.
