As recently as January, pitcher Pablo Lopez was traded from the Miami Marlins to the Minnesota Twins along with shortstop Jose Salas and outfielder Byron Chourio in return Luis Arraez.
But now Lopez has just confirmed his presence in the Twins uniform for the next four seasons. Indeed, the right-hander has just initialed an agreement of 73.5 million dollars for these four campaigns. The new pact will redeem Lopez’s final officiating season (2024) in addition to three years of freelance.
The 27-year-old commands a salary of $5.45 million for the 2023 season, so we can consider his new contract a nice salary increase.
Lopez is off to a great start to the season so far. In four starts, he posted an ERA of 1.73 in 26 innings of work. He allowed just 15 hits and six walks during that span.
In yesterday’s game against the New York Yankees, Lopez continued his momentum, allowing the Bronx Bombers just two runs. Gerrit Cole was too strong for the Twins, however, with Lopez picking up his first loss of the season.
The transaction between Minnesota and Miami was a fit perfect for meeting the needs of both formations. The signature of Lopez reinforces this idea.
