Operation Tommy John for Jacob deGrom

Recently, we learned that Jacob deGrom was going to be on the 60-day injured list. And there, we have just understood that it will take him more than 60 days to recover.

For what? Because he’s going to have Tommy John-type surgery.

This is really big news for a pitcher who, last I heard, was getting better and better. But eventually, Mr. Wounds will be out for a bit.

This is the story of his career.

In the best case, he will return to the game in the second half of the 2024 season. In the worst case, he will return in 2025 only, which is a blow.

The Texas Rangers have a big club, huge offense and good pitchers. His absence will be felt, but it is not a disaster for all that.

The Rangers had signed the pitcher knowing he was going to get hurt at some point. Now that six (good) starts later, his return will be long overdue for a good 15 months.

The Mets need to be satisfied right now. After all, his $185 million contract in Texas isn’t looking exactly good at the time of this writing.
