We are finally on the first day of the playoffs. I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited. And I’m not saying that just because I’ll be driving to Toronto today to watch the Blue Jays game.
I say that because it’s a magical moment. Every game counts and there are many great stories at this time of the season.
So yes, I see the Cardinals winning (and the Yankees losing in the World Series), but I’m aware that’s not exactly the safest pick – or even the most popular pick.
Right now, the Dodgers, Astros, Braves and Yankees, the four clubs that don’t have to contest the wild card series, are the bookmakers’ favorites.
They are followed by the Mets and the Blue Jays, two big teams that did not win their division in 2022, but deserved to do so in a weaker division.
Here is what it gives.
What’s interesting is that the teams that have a good chance of breaking through are the ones with a large pitching staff. The Astros, Dodgers and Braves have big resources.
However, this is not always true. The Guardians and Rays, among the lowest-ranked rosters to win, are in the top-5 for playoff pitching quality.
And the Blue Jays are ranked 11th – out of 12 – for pitchers. We know that the attack will be important on the side of the Queen City and that will make the difference.
In my eyes, in any case, it will make the difference at least for the series of the best second.
