The Los Angeles Dodgers signed starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard yesterday. He signed a one-year contract valued at $13 million.
What we notice is that the pitcher lost feathers in 2022. After signing for $21 million a year ago, here he is at $13 million – in addition to certain performance bonuses.
Why? Because that’s what he wanted.
In fact, he had more lucrative offers on the table with several years guaranteed. That said, he really wanted to pitch for the Dodgers.
Why?
First of all, it’s a good team. It’s a comeback to LA for whoever pitched with the Angels in 2022 and he trusts the Dodgers.
It’s obviously a good way to shop for a ring (he’s been close with the Mets and the Phillies), but it’s above all a good environment to regain confidence. The Dodgers have a lot of quality pitchers, which will take the pressure off them.
And clearly, the Dodgers have a good recipe for reviving gunners. Look what happened with Andrew Heaney and Tyler Anderson, to name a few.
Thor, whose velocity fell in 2022, therefore intends to regain its former form (or approach it, at least) to retest the market in a year.
Will this work? It remains to be seen, but the bet is worth it for everyone.
