No more Mookie Betts at second base this season

Those hoping to see Mookie Betts hitting double-handed balls will be happy to hear that he will have about 40 chances to do so this season.

Indeed, the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Brian Roberts, will grant Betts’ wish by allowing him to play more in the infield, that is to say at second base.

It is this position that has seen the current outfielder who has signed a lucrative contract with the Californian team grow.

In his first nine seasons in major league baseball, Betts played nine games at second base.

“The way I see it is that Mookie will play about 40 games at second base,” Brian Roberts told Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci.

A natural second baseman, Mookie said the injury to Gavin Lux opened the door for him. Betts was even ready for a permanent change. The main interested party does not necessarily see himself as an outfielder, but it must be admitted that he has had success in this position.

That does not prevent him from making a change at this stage of his career, at 30 years old. The Dodgers were also willing to send him permanently to second base to sign Aaron Judge.

“All my life, I’ve been in the infield. The only time I went to the outfield was when the games were starting,” added Mookie Betts.
