The subject that will be on everyone’s lips between now and the next off-season, and which has already been on everyone’s lips for several months, is of course the next destination of star player Shohei Ohtani. Everyone has their idea, as much among the fans, the experts, the leaders, as among the players.
Among the latter, New York Yankees gunner Nestor Cortes Jr. would like to see the Nippon wear the striped uniform by his side. Who wouldn’t want to have it in ranks?
It would be great for us if we could land it in New York. But it’s going to be very expensive, so we’ll see how it goes in the future.
The Bronx Bombers will certainly be interested in acquiring the services of Ohtani at the end of the current campaign, or perhaps before if the Los Angeles Angels find themselves out of the playoff picture.
However, as Cortes Jr. mentions, it will come at an exorbitant price and no one is sure owner Hal Steinbrenner will want to reach that deep into his pocket. Yes, some contracts will no longer be on the Yankees payroll after the 2023 season, but will that be enough for Steinbrenner to pull out the checkbook? I strongly doubt it.
Speaking of the Yankees and the Angels, they will cross swords tonight for a series of three games. For the first duel, José Suarez will face Clarke Schmidt on the mound, two pitchers who are having a bad start to the season.
Cortes, for his part, will be automatically in the last match of the series and will therefore have the opportunity to face Ohtani.
