Mookie Betts return to victory in Boston

Celebrating his first visit to Fenway Park in four years, Mookie Betts received a heartfelt ovation from the 35,653 spectators who gathered yesterday to see the American League’s Most Valuable Player of the 2018 season.

Now an important cog in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Betts continues to perform well and Red Sox fans are still questioning his reasons for moving to California ahead of the 2020 season.

Recall that Betts and pitcher David Price had gone to the Dodgers and in return, Boston got their hands on three players. We’re talking about Alex Verdugo, Connor Wong and Jeter Downs here.

During the game, Betts had one hit on four, but scored two runs in the team’s 7-4 win over the Red Sox.

His Dodgers teammate Freddie Freeman stole the show thanks to four hits in five appearances. Freeman drove in a run and scored three. Max Muncy drove in three of his team’s seven points.

Alex Verdugo and Trevor Story could have shaken the confidence of Dodgers starter Lance Lynn by hitting the ball over the fence in the first two innings, but the latter still pitched six innings and added a tenth gain on his record in 2023.

Having represented the Dodgers in the All-Star Game for a third time, Betts is having a 2023 season that lives up to his talent. The player who plays in the outfield and occasionally in the infield hits for an average of .309, in addition to having completed 34 long balls. He ranks sixth in the Majors, tied with Julio Rodriguez, with 146 hits.

The Dodgers dominate the National’s West Division with a comfortable 12-game lead over their closest rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Red Sox, they continue to fight for their pass in anticipation of the 2023 playoffs. They are three and a half games behind the Houston Astros for the last echelon giving right to the real season.

Mookie Betts is at peace with Chaim Bloom’s decision to have him traded to the Dodgers, when the leader had just landed in Boston in his new role.

He calls himself a more mature player, but with the same ambitions, that is to allow his teammates to be better and his team to perform to the top.
