Yesterday, the Dodgers won 10-0 against the Miami Marlins. It was a great victory which brought the club’s record to 85-54.
It’s difficult to do better, let’s face it. The Braves are doing better, obviously, but the fact remains that Los Angeles is part of the elite.
But despite everything, this morning, Dodgers fans are holding their breath. For what?
Because Mookie Betts, towards the end of the game, got injured. He hit a foul ball that ended up on his own foot.
He did not finish the match and took tests (X-rays) which, fortunately, came back negative. That’s already it, you will tell me… which is not false.
On the other hand, even if it was as a precaution, we agree that seeing him leave the Marlins stadium on crutches is not exactly good news.
I don’t know if he will be forced to miss several games, but the fact remains that this is not a situation that should please the Dodgers.
Remember that the club has a thin rotation without Tony Gonsolin, without Julio Urias, without Walker Buehler… and considering the precarious state of health of the legendary Clayton Kershaw, it is even more precarious.
Dave Roberts therefore needs his batting stars and this season, with Freddie Freeman, Betts is completely on another planet.
I wonder how much this helps Ronald Acuna Jr. walk away with the MVP award. After all, the two men are in a big race over this – especially over the past month.
If Betts has to miss games, that could be the difference. And if Acuna Jr. hits the 40 home run mark (he already has 34 home runs), he could be in the 60 stolen base and 40 home run group.
But OK. Before thinking about the MVP or the playoffs, where the Braves and the Dodgers could cross swords, we have to hope that Betts is doing well.
- Randal Grichuk, Mr. Ballottage, made his team win yesterday. Basically, he wasn’t supposed to play yesterday…
- Yes, David Stearns is heading to the Mets.
- Anthony Rizzo, whose season is over, was ejected from yesterday’s game.
- Shohei Ohtani could play tonight.
- Had you forgotten that he was in Boston? Me too.
