This year, the Toronto Blue Jays will have a good roster. They have one of the good rotations and their attack is not ugly. It will give them a chance.
This means that, according to MLB, the Blue Jays could go to the World Series this year. The predictions that have been released see them losing to the Dodgers.
Is this realistic?
The Jays have a good defensive formation and offensively, we are talking about a club which is more and more balanced in right-handed and left-handed people at bat. Last year, it was a shortcoming.
Now, on a regular basis, Daulton Varsho, Brandon Belt and Kevin Kiermaier will strike. Cavan Biggio will also have his chance.
If Belt can stay healthy and produce with dignity (as he thinks he can now that his knee is fine) as a pick hitter and pinch hitter, it could look like this.
The addition of Belt really adds a spice that the Jays lacked. After all, anyone who had three or four teams chasing them loves the fit in Toronto because he feels the club wants to give him responsibilities en masse.
His ability to help out on first base, his leadership and his left-handed stick are assets that make the Jays more complete than before.
Offensively, maybe an element is missing. An outfielder, possibly?
According to Shi Davidi, the Jays would like to add an outfielder who hits from the right in the outfield. The name of a Trey Mancini might make sense under the circumstances.
And the club would also like to add another reliever.
The addition of Erik Swanson will stabilize the enclosure, which is still a little fragile. But if the rotation does its job (starting with Jose Berrios), it will help.
And the ability to add to the deadline will help the club on the mound.
John Schneider’s first full season as the club’s full-time manager is promising. Will the club manage to get as far as some pundits predict at the start of January? It is early to tell.
