MLB places Wander Franco on administrative leave

The Wander Franco saga continues, and it’s far from over.

Indeed, MLB has just placed the Tampa Bay Rays shortstop on indefinite paid administrative leave as it continues its investigation into allegations that the latter had an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

The 22-year-old is also being investigated by authorities in the Dominican Republic for acts involving at least two underage girls.

The leave is effective immediately, but is not disciplinary under the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy at this time. Major League Baseball can impose an administrative leave for a period of seven days without the approval of Franco or the union.

However, the league will have to find a reasonable cause to extend this period, as was the case for former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer, who was charged with assaulting a woman in 2021. He was ultimately suspended. for 194 games.

According to the Bauer file, Franco’s is not about to be settled.

For their part, the Rays support the decision that has just been taken.

We support MLB’s decision to place Wander Franco on administrative leave. The Tampa Bay Rays are dedicated to maintaining high standards of integrity on and off the field. We appreciate our fans’ understanding and patience as this process unfolds.

Tampa Bay had placed its young star on the restricted list for its week-long trip which is now over. The Rays are now back at home to face the Colorado Rockies at Tropicana Field.
