Is that a reason why he left the Marlins? At least that’s what’s going on right now.
Heard Jeter believed going into the lockout that there would be another $10M-$15M that the Marlins would spend on the 2022 roster, and that strategy evaporated during the lockout. It was central to Jeter’s decision to leave as CEO.

Everything now seems to suggest that GM Kim Ng will completely direct the club’s baseball operations.
Marlins General Manager Kim Ng will now be the key decision maker in the organization. Previously all deals went through Derek Jeter, and he leaned heavily on Gary Denbo. Now, I believe Ng will have final say on the baseball side.

Jeter/Marlins were in fairly serious talks with Miami-bred star OF Nick Castellanos before the lockout. We will see once the lockout ends whether he’s still in the plans. Might he be too expensive for them now?

A “camp” for players
During the lockout, the Players Association organizes a “camp” in Arizona for the players.
The MLBPA has organized a “fully staffed” stadium and facility for players to train in Mesa, AZ, according to sources familiar with the situation.
