However, the most important thing is the crowds.
An MLB source said about half of the sports’ revenues are tied to in-game attendance. So a 5% attendance decline would be something like a -2.5% revenue hit. That’s a ~$250 million loss. What is the gap between parties? A dangerous game of chicken.

Note, speaking of the record, that MLB has a few changes in mind.
The three rule changes that MLB wants to implement: Banning shifts, a pitch clock, and oversized bases can not begin before the 2024 season unless the union agrees. MLB wants the rules to go into effect in 2023.

Juan Soto does not think about his contract
Whoever could win $500 million leaves that in the hands of Scott Boras, his agent.
Juan Soto on a possible contract extension of $500 million: “500 what?, where?, how?, when, .500 batting average?… Right now we are focused on the lockout. Regarding my contract extension, Scott Boras is the one who will talk about it.”

NFL prospects don’t like baseball
50 prospects surveyed (out of 50) did not mention an MLB player when it came to naming a player from another league.
We asked 50 NFL draft prospects their favorite current athlete outside of football. “So it would have to be a basketball player,” one said. The NBA dominated, with LeBron James among 12 players named. Hockey? One. Baseball? None. NFL Combine Confidential: https://t.co/gt2zrk3Oyx

A leader breaks the silence
Since the start of the conflict, few people in high places have spoken.
No baseball executive had talked publicly about labor matters since the MLB lockout began Dec. 2.
Wednesday, Royals president of baseball operations Dayton Moore broke his silence.
