Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani aren’t used to fighting each other. The two Los Angeles Angels superstars have had the chance to do it only once, and that was at the World Classic.
As Trout mentioned in the podcast On Base along with Mookie Betts, he and Ohtani have never faced each other in a batting practice on their team.
It was the first time I was going to face Ohtani. I often see him throwing from center field and the movement of his shots is pretty amazing, but it’s different when you’re in front of him.

The opportunity was therefore dreamed of in the final of the World Classic, end of the ninth inning and two outs.
I had only one idea in mind at that precise moment: to hit a home run. It was only the second time in my career that I had come up with this batting approach. The other time was when I knocked for a carousel.

Unfortunately for the American, this approach did not guarantee success this time around. Japan’s top player struck him out to end the game.
A whole scenario all the same, which we remember, had put an end to an extremely exciting tournament.
Also note that the Angels outfielder thinks Ohtani will earn between $500 million and $600 million for his next contract.
