Earlier this morning, my colleague Charles-Alexis Brisebois informed you that the Blue Jays were very interested in the services of Tyler Mahle from the Cincinnati Reds before the work stoppage.
The Jays have a good rotation, but as my colleague pointed out, the team would like to add a starting pitcher to fill the fifth position in the rotation.
Toronto doesn’t just have needs on the mound. Indeed, there are still holes to be filled in the infield. With the departure of Marcus Semien, a gaping position is to be filled, either at second base and/or third base.
Hence the name of Mike Moustakas, which is interesting to analyze.
Moose is under contract for two more seasons. Yes, he is paid a very high price, yes, he is coming back from a very difficult season, but we know his potential. He could be an interesting asset as Cavan Biggio is a question mark right now. Santiago Espinal, who had a good season last year, does not have a secure position either.
The ideal is to get another Marcus Semien on the free agent market, but the main candidates (Correa and Story) are looking for long-term contracts, not one-season contracts.
Jordan Groshans will begin his adventure in MLB very soon, but until he takes a little more stripe, Moustakas could warm up his third cushion. It’s not like money is short in Toronto…
