Michael Wacha agrees with the Padres

The free agent market is getting thinner and thinner, and that will be the case until the start of the 2023 campaign.

Lo and behold, an additional piece, probably the most attractive remaining, has been removed from the display case. Indeed, the San Diego Padres and the gunner Michael Wacha have agreed on the terms of a contract, if of course, he passes the physical tests.

The details of the pact are not known at the moment, and it could be a bit complex, since the main interested party wanted to sign for two years, which nobody wanted to grant him.

The right-hander had one of the best seasons of his career in 2022, posting a record of 11 wins against only 2 losses, in addition to maintaining a 3.32 earned run average and a 1.12 WHIP in 23 starts with the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to the Red Stockings, the 31-year-old spent 10 campaigns in MLB, roaming between the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays.

Wacha will bolster an already well-heeled rotation, with the presence of Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Blake Snell, Nick Martinez and Seth Lugo, although it’s doubtful that the latter will act as a starter, especially with this new acquisition. Lugo’s role should be in the bullpen.
