Last year, Max Scherzer won the World Series with the Texas Rangers. So the pitcher achieved what he wanted to accomplish… when he signed with the Mets.
But OK.
The problem was that he was often injured along the way. His body is aging and in 2023 he hasn't exactly held up for the Rangers.
He was injured late in the season for Texas and returned to the playoffs. From there, he also injured his back, which ended his season.
But what's more, he had surgery.
We knew that the pitcher was going to miss a good part of the season, having to be away until the summer. Obviously, this is still the case at the moment.
But the good news is that he is doing well.
As reported at his club's Fan Fest, we learned that Scherzer should start training again within the next three weeks.
Why within the next three weeks? Because he is doing better, but also because he has not suffered a setback in his progress since his operation.
Normally, when things are going well after six weeks, that's a good sign. He hasn't had any setbacks in his progress over the past six weeks, which is perfect.
He can therefore concentrate on returning (if nothing changes) in June or July, as originally planned.
Remember that the Rangers, who have not yet signed a big pitcher like Jordan Montgomery, have a strange rotation.
For what? Because in addition to Scherzer, Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle will return during the season. Those are three big additions to a rotation. Imagine if Clayton Kershaw were to be signed, plus…
All this to say that the situation in Texas will have to be monitored.
